We are glad that Consumer Reports has issued a favorable review of glucosamine and increased the knowledge of the benefits of glucosamine. However, they omitted two major pieces of information. Firstly, they stated that the quality of the glucosamine does not matter; and that one should buy the cheapest available.

This is far from the truth. One should always look for and buy the highest quality available. The quality of the glucosamine has a direct relationship to the amount of relief experienced and to proteoglycans and glycosaminoglycans produced. This, of course, has a direct relationship to the amount of synovial fluid produced, which lubricates the joints and rehabilitates the cartilage.

The second omission Consumer Reports made was no mention of glucosamine in liquid form. Liquids have been shown time and time again, to be absorbed much more quickly and much more fully, providing greater relief and much increased efficacy.

When glucosamine is absorbed in powder form through pills or capsules, it has been shown that anywhere between 8.3% and 20% actually gets into the bloodstream after assimilation in the alimentary canal and digestive system. On the other hand, liquid glucosamine has shown to have an absorption rate of 80-85%.
