Time debuted in the Biathlon World Cup in the latter part of the 2003-4 season in Ruhpolding, Germany. This was his first World Championship race. He first made the U.S. Olympic Team in 2006 and in 2007, he got his first World Cup points in Ostersund, Sweden. He followed that with a top finish in his World Cup career in Hochfilzen, Austria.

And, despite experiencing some other health issues, he finished on a high note when he had the best scratch time in a World Cup competition.

In 2009 and 2010, Tim broke through to the elite of biathlon when he became the second ever U.S. biathlete to finish 2d in a Biathlon World Cup. On December 20, 2009 became the first U.S. Biathlete to win the overall World Cup lead. He competed in the 2010 Winter Olympics where he finished just 1 minute and 9 seconds behind the gold medalist.
